  • Well what a great start to 2014

I was very pleased to be invited to Cheltenham this weekend, by the Retraining of Racehorses coordinator Clare Poole.

What a fantastic job she did of pulling it all together whilst fighting the floods on her own doorstep (now there's dedication for you)

I set off to fight my way through the tempest, and you could have believed the whole country was deep in water the view from the motorways as I travelled was lakes as far as the eye could see!

But what a relief to reach the warm dry and welcoming facilities of Summerhouse Equestrian, just outside Cheltenham,a lovely large, well lit indoor school with super viewing facilities. Our spectators were not disappointed, what lovely and varied dancing companions were there to gret me!

All of the horses were out competing at dressage, from Prelim/Novice up to Elem/Med,and boy were they up for some fun.
We worked on Rhythm first of all, just finding out how much harmony there was between horse and rider, and after a little while the synergy began to show through.
Patterns and music choices flowed freely, and the horses all brought much of their fantastic personalities bubbling to the surface,it was lovely that the riders allowed the horses this freedom as it really made for some special work, and results.

The way the horses responded to the music allowed the riders and I to select what really worked best to enhance the horses abilities, and the choices were eclectic and varied, from strict tempo ballroom,to scratch tracks and stem punk ! Who would have guessed ?

I think everyone was happy with their results, and all said how much their horses  responded and enjoyed the addition of music,we had one event horse who certainly looked like he was thinking"Maybe this dressage lark  isn't so dull after all ?"

I was glad to be welcomed so warmly and really look forward to going back to see their progress, and dear ex racers until next time

Thank you Amanda for your inspiration at Summerhouse.  My Ex racehorse thoroughly enjoyed the session and it has given me the confidence to start planning our freestyle routine.
